Given that it’s the end of November and finals are looming on the horizon, you could be forgiven for feeling a bit worried. With everyone’s pent-up anxiety over end of term assignments and upcoming exams, you could likewise be forgiven for wanting to get away from the eternal hustle and bustle of campus, or the claustrophobic nature of your student house.

With that in mind, here are five spots scattered around Hamilton that will satisfy all your studying needs.

Coco Fresh Tea & Juice

The international chain synonymous with bubble tea has a convenient location right off Main St. E and John St. S that makes getting there via public transit a breeze. With a slew of delicious beverage offerings and a healthy amount of seating, Coco’s checks all the boxes, including free wi-fi. If your stomach starts grumbling, you can always head next door to Sapporo for some sushi.

Durand Coffee

Durand might be a healthy walk from Main Street, but that is also one of its blessings. Being a shop that caters to a residential neighbourhood rather than a busy downtown thoroughfare makes Durand a great choice to set up shop for a bit of studying, especially given its great array of seating and copious amounts of natural light. The Propeller Roastery coffee they brew isn’t too shabby either!

Hamilton Central Library

You know what’s more calming than wide open spaces, high ceilings, and massive windows with sunlight streaming through them? Nothing. Hamilton’s Central library is an architectural gem that boasts multiple floors of study space, with the convenience of being accessible from Jackson Square’s food court. If you need a study break, you can take part in the bevy of chess matches that are always going down amongst regulars.

Edens

There’s not much to incite one to go further West past Emerson, but Edens is one of the reasons to consider it. A cafe/restaurant, Edens boasts a menu with Greek and Italian offerings, along with fresh cold pressed-juice for all your nutritional needs. Seating is also plentiful, with a bunch of comfy booths to set-up your own study den.

Brown Dog Coffee Shoppe

With great stress, comes great cravings. Brown Dog will satisfy the sweet tooth in all of us, and doesn’t lack spots to get cozy and hit the books in. Just make sure to bring a friend to keep you in check if you’re worried about your inner glutton going rampant with the desserts they have on offer.
