Could Carleton Compete?

The Carleton Ravens have claimed 10 of the past 12 CIS Final 8 championships.

No university in Canada can fly with them. In the past four years, they have won 132 games and lost three. Carleton has outgrown Canadian Interuniversity Sport, and it is time for them to move on to more challenging opponents.

It has been often debated that the Ravens could compete in the NCAA, but I think that is selling them short. I say that Carleton could compete with the Milwaukee Bucks. Yep, that’s right.

Phil Scrubb is apparently on the radar for an NBA contract, so obviously he could handle the Bucks. And, he plays basketball while only having his mouthguard halfway in. Splashing threes while using a chew toy takes some pretty serious talent.

Look down the roster for the Ravens and you’ll find even more talent. In the CIS championship game, Tyson Hinz hit a fade-away jumper from the block that was reminiscent of Dirk Nowitzki’s shot. What else do Hinz and Nowitzki have in common? Neither is from the United States and both have blonde hair. I like my odds for Hinz taking on a frontcourt of Ersan Ilyasova, Miroslav Radulijca and John Henson.

You can’t forget the distinct advantage in coaching, either. Dave Smart has one of the most recognizable voices of all-time. The high-pitched yelling is sure to throw off Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokoumpo, who only recently discovered smoothies. The Bucks coach is Larry Drew, whose last name is definitely not as good as Smart. Drew is half of a name, so he’s at best, half the coach as his CIS counterpart.

More importantly, the Bucks are a smoldering mess of polyester, synthetic leather and extremely long limbs attempting to play the sport that a Canadian created. Two of their players got in fights in the past month, and it’s actually impressive that they didn’t fight each other. Carleton could push their buttons and cause some ejections.

You cannot forget that the Ravens have already beat a team from the state of Wisconsin this year. The University of Wisconsin Badgers lost in exhibition action, and really, the Milwaukee Bucks are probably worse than Wisconsin.

Milwaukee has won 13 games and lost 50, as of March 13. That’s a lot of games, you guys. Carleton won 33 games and lost one, by one point.

Forget the NCAA, Carleton could be an NBA franchise. The stats don’t lie.
